We have a National League Central matchup with possible playoff implications when the Milwaukee Brewers meet the St Louis Cardinals for the final regular-season contest for both teams. St Louis defeated Milwaukee on Friday night by a score of 9-1, inching closer to a playoff berth and Milwaukee is in win or their season is done mode.

This preview was written prior to the start of Saturday contests and all opinions are based on Friday night MLB action.

Brewers in Must Win Mode

Milwaukee has its collective backs to the wall after losing the opening game of this series by a score of 9-1. The Brewers enter Saturday hoping to end a three-game losing streak but has won six of its last ten games. Infielder Keston Hiura leads Milwaukee with 13 bombs with a team-leading 32 RBI.

Lefty Brett Anderson (4-3, 4.00) is the Milwaukee probable starting pitcher for Sunday, and over 45 innings pitched has scattered 48 hits, 20 earned runs with six bombs, and nine walks. Anderson has struck out 31 hitters and is up against a St Louis offense with a 21 percent strikeout rate and .163 ISO over 342 plate appearances against left-handed pitching this season.

Cardinals Destiny in Own Hands

St Louis hasn’t secured a playoff spot as of this writing but they are awfully close to doing so. A couple more wins like the 9-1 massacre on Friday night should get the job done. St Louis enters Saturday riding a three-game winning streak and has won seven of their last ten games. Infielder Brad Miller leads the Cardinals with seven dingers and infielder Tommy Edman has a team-high 26 RBI.

St Louis is undecided as to who will start this game but whoever does is up against a Brewers offense with a 27 percent strikeout rate and .167 ISO over 2113 plate appearances this season.
