The No. 3 seed Minnesota Twins season is on the line, after falling to the No. 6 Astros 4-1 in the first round of the American League Playoffs on Tuesday. If the Twins win on Wednesday then

The Twins took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Nelson Cruz double, the score remained that way until George Springer tied the game with a two-out single in the seventh. The Astros then took the lead for good with a three-run top of the ninth, after a Jose Altuve bases-loaded walk, and a two-run single by Michael Brantley.

 

Astros come back for 4-1 win

The Astros will face Jose Berrios on Wednesday. Alex Bregman is 4 for 7 (.571, 1 HR 4 RBI), George Springer is 6 for 12 (.500 1 HR, 4 RBI) and Jose Altuve is 4 for 12 (.333, 4 RBI) all-time against Berrios.

 

The Astros have not yet announced a starter for Wednesday, but everyone should be available except for Zack Greinke and Framber Valdez who were the only two pitchers used in the series-opening win. Greinke pitched four innings and allowed one run, while Valdez finished the game with five shut-out innings and picked up the win.

 

As a team, Houston was 13th with a 4.31 ERA, and 11th with 13 defensive runs saved this season. The Astros also ranked 13h in baseball, scoring 4.6 runs per game on the road. Kyle Tucker emerged as one of the Astros top offensive players this year, leading the team with 42 RBI and eight stolen bases. Tucker played in 58 games this season, after only having 50 total games of MLB experience under his belt between the previous two seasons. The 2017 World Series MVP, George Springer, missed nine games this season but led the team with 14 home runs and was second with 32 RBI.

Twins lose another playoff home game

The Twins will start Jose Berrios on Wednesday who was 5-4 with a 4.00 WHIP this season. In two career postseason games, Berrios is 0-1 with 5.62 ERA and 1.71 WHIP. Lifetime against Houston, Berrios is 2-3 with a 6.43 ERA and 1.91 WHIP.

 

The Minnesota Twins came into the postseason as AL Central Division champions after posting a 36-24 record. The Twins pitching staff ranked fourth in baseball, behind the LA Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, and Tampa Bay Rays with a 3.58 team ERA. Defensively the Twins ranked sixth with 24 defensive runs saved this season. At home, Minnesota averaged 4.5 runs per game, 16th in MLB. At 40-years old, Nelson Cruz put together another great season, leading the team with a .303 AVG and 16 home runs. Eddie Rosario leads the team with 42 RBI and added 13 home runs. Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano also each hit 13 homers this year.
